Rescheduled: Meet Expert Naturalist Wilson Alvarez on May 18
Join us for our first Woodland Stewardship Event
Rain scuttled our original plans—but we’re happy to announce we’ve rescheduled!
The Soldiers Field Volunteer Brigade is excited to announce our first Woodland Stewardship Event featuring expert naturalist Wilson Alvarez!
Sunday, May 18th 10 AM – 1 PM
Meet at the Borough Office
Wilson Alvarez is a certified permaculture designer, skilled tracker, and nature-awareness instructor with fourteen years of experience teaching bio-intensive agriculture and regenerative technology. He'll be partnering with us to guide the restoration of the woodland areas at Soldiers Field.
This special introductory session will give you the opportunity to:
Meet Wilson and learn about his approach to woodland restoration
Gain a new understanding of forest ecosystems
Discover how healthy woodlands contribute to our community's environmental health
Observe and potentially participate in hands-on restoration techniques
No experience necessary! While some hands-on work may take place during the session, there's absolutely no obligation to participate—simply attending to learn is welcome.
For those interested in the hands-on portion, please bring loppers, tree saw, or spade if you have them.
Over the past year, the Soldiers Field Volunteer Brigade has made tremendous progress with 12-20 dedicated volunteers showing up regularly to restore this cherished green space to its original glory. Whether you've been with us from the beginning or are curious about joining for the first time, we hope to see you on May 4th!
